Oak Lawn Wins IHSA State Speech Title

Congratulations to the Oak Lawn Community High School Speech Team. The team earned the State Championship title this weekend at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Speech Tournament in Peoria.

State placeholders include: Senior Eric Sequeira, State Champion in Poetry Reading; Senior Maria Grana, State Runner-up in Special Occasion Speaking; Senior Nick Szurgot, Runner-up in Informative Speaking; Junior Eric Hoppenrath, Third Place in Prose Reading; and Andrew Green, Fifth Place in Extemporaneous Speaking and Fifth Place in Original Oratory.

Despite several individual speech state champions in the school's history, this is the first time OLCHS has earned the state championship speech team title.
