OAK LAWN BOYS/GIRLS HOOPS TO HONOR ALUMNI THIS WEEKEND

This weekend is all about the alumni at Oak Lawn Community High School. Friday night the Spartans boys and girls basketball teams will host a doubleheader against TF South. But the night is not only going to feature the present Spartan hoopsters, it will also feature a few ballers from the past. The girls will honor Single-Season Scoring record holder Jill Postregna (09), and the boys will honor Jim Bo Bocinsky (71). The alumni weekend will conclude with the Sixth Annual Alumni Game Series on Saturday night.
Bocinsky was an instrumental player on the 1971 Spartan team that took home a second-place State trophy. He was a Top 5 scorer in the 1971 State Finals Series. It was his 32-point game against St. Patricks that carried the Spartans in the Supersectional. Bocinsky went on to captain Ray Meyers DePaul Blue Demons in college and played professionally in Europe. He also played in the first Olympic Festival Games in Colorado.
Postregna returns to Oak Lawns hardcourt from Champaign, Ill. where she attends the University of Illinois. Postregna completed an outstanding three-year varsity career last year and left her mark on the program. She set the single-season scoring record with 429 points, and she set a record for assists in a game with 12.
The Alumni Game Series begins in the Spartan Gymnasium at 4 p.m. on Saturday as the women alumni will battle it out on the court. At 5 p.m. the men from the early 2000s will play against the men from the late 2000s. At 6 p.m. the men from the 1990s will take on the men from the late 1980s, and finally at 7 p.m. the men of the early 1980s will battle all pre-1980 alums. Last year there were 67 male alums in action and 20 women alums. Spectators are welcome to come and watch all events.
