BOYS BOWLING AIMS FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT TRIP TO STATE

Last year the Oak Lawn Community High School Boys Bowling team had an outstanding season with a 14-3 record, a second-place finish in conference and another second-place finish at the Sectional Meet. It also advanced to the state tournament for the fifth straight year. And despite the fact that the Spartans lost most of that team to graduation, head coach Kevin McKeown and the boys are looking to maintain focus and come together for a competitive surge again this year.
The Spartans are mostly underclassmen with only one senior and two juniors. Jacob Siska is the senior and the juniors are Matt Taraba and Chris Duran.
We have some really strong players with newcomer Chris Duran who has bowled well and returning varsity players Taraba and Siska, McKeown said.
Young bowlers who are standing out are sophomores Adam Quiroz, Cody Marek and freshman Ryan Campin. Other bowlers are Mike Pontrelli, Tom Papaleo, Ryan VandeWerken, Kyle Rodda, Brendan DuVall and Dan Pfister.
A player that stands out is our freshman, Ryan, McKeown said. He has taken high series and high single-game score for the team in every contest. He is really a remarkable bowler and is getting better with each meet.
As for getting back to state for a sixth time in six years, the Spartans know they have some work to do.
The only thing I can say this early in the season is that all of these young men are great student-athletes, McKeown said. And even though they have not bowled together competitively ever in their lives, when they click and everyone is on their game, they will be hard to beat. There is a lot of talent in our conference with Reavis, Oak Forest, and Tinley Park, but if we maintain our focus, we will do well against them. Like every year before, I am really looking forward to how our team matches up.
