OAK LAWN SOCCER NEW CHALLENGE DEFENDING CONFERENCE CROWN
Just one year after winning Oak Lawn Community High Schools first-ever conference championship in boys soccer, the Spartans are dealing with an entirely new challenge defending that title. The view is definitely different from the top.
Yes, the team lost eight of its starting eleven players to graduation. Yes, one of those players was South Suburban Conference Red Player of the Year Mostafa Abdelrahman and his 27 goals. Yes, they were 15-5 overall and 9-1 in conference. The goal is still simple repeat last years feat of claiming conference supremacy.
Coming off last years excellent season where the team won its first conference title in school history, we know teams are gunning for us, said head coach Kevin Stow, who is in his twelfth year at the helm. Although we lost eight of the starting eleven of last years team to graduation, this years squad knows they have to defend that title with effort and experience. While that may be a tall order at the start of the season, I feel well be hitting full stride just as the second half of the season begins the important part.
All-conference senior defender Jonathan Rodriguez leads the Spartans in this ambitious quest for glory. He is joined by sophomore midfielder Jakub Sutowski, senior goaltender Jorge Marinez and senior midfielder Fred Campos.
Marinez started in goal for the Spartans last year, while Sutowski led the frosh/soph team in goals a year ago.
